202/365 – While wandering in the forest

Yesterday we took a trip upriver to see a friend and we took her to Baker Lake for a picnic. We had a good time with overcast skies so it was not so hot nor was it raining.

While we were there Ryan decided to take a swim and he said it wasn’t half bad. He went out twice, the second time with his snorkle. Unfortunately this is a glacial lake so the water is not clear but a milky green, which is very pretty but he could not see anything. Neither of us girls chose to go in, we just watched amd waved.

I noticed a beautiful bloom on a Thistle so I had to take a picture of it, of course.

On our way back to Andrea’s house we stopped so that we could look at rocks along a creek. She engraves rocks and I love to paint rocks for my garden. While there Ryan spotted a salamander sunning himself on a rock. At closer inspection we found there were about 4 salamanders and two Garter snakes too. The one on the rock did not let us disturb him but the others slithered off into the tall grass.

Then I noticed this fabulous moss growing on the edge of the bridge we were beside and had to take a picture of it. I thought it was kind of pretty how it was growing there. All in all it was a great day with friends!

Photos taken at Baker Lake and Grandy Creek WA.
