252/365 Danaus plexippus

…otherwise known as the Monarch Butterfly!!!

This week I noticed there were two caterpillars munching on the milkweed that grows along the driveway. Soon they will each form a chrysalis and in a couple of weeks emerge as butterflies. Monarchs have been in decline in recent years, so I am happy if I can help a few more fly off into the world.

He’ll be ready for his chrysalis soon! Nice shot! (The girls and I raised one once, which was fascinating. They named her Princess Stripey. Turns out Princess Stripey was actually Prince Stripey, but that’s sometimes just the way of things. šŸ˜‰ )

Very nice! I’m still trying to get a picture of an adult. They overwinter here but are camera shy around me!
